Baker’s Ribs – Dallas, TX

In honor of National BBQ Month, another BBQ Review for you.

With 10 locations in the US, primarily Texas, Baker’s Ribs stakes its claim to the best ribs around. Their slogan, “You’ve tried the rest, now try the best” attracted me to a plate of Ribs and Sausage to see what the fuss is about. On a cold winter Saturday, I grabbed the wife and we ordered up some ‘que.

Baker

After a few bites of their ribs, I found that although not the “Best,” Baker’s are better than the rest. The tender ribs gave way the minute my teeth sunk into juicy slabs of pork. The meat quickly gave way from the bone leaving little bits of juicy pork behind. Not totally fall off the bone, but pretty close. The rub was a peppery blend that created a great crust around the meat. The sauce was nothing to rave about, but did the job well. Unfortunately, Baker’s falls in the so-so Sausage category. What’s going on out there? Does no one like a good smoked kielbasa anymore? The sausage tastes much like that of Eckrich sausage. Pass on the sausage for sure.

Pulled Pork Sandwich

My lovely wife dove into the Pulled Pork Sandwich at Baker’s. The pork was juicy and tender and had a light smoke flavor. It was somewhat dry either by having sat pulled too long or by not being pulled correctly as noticed by The FCGB Blog. Much like the ribs, not the best but better than many.

The highlight of the trip was the surprisingly tangy potato salad. This isn’t your grandma’s potato salad. Bites of the tender potatoes explode with a machine gun burst of dill. The salad was a nice surprise from the usual mayonaisey offerings. Something different….something with bite….something that surprised is always fun when trying new places.

If you are a rib fan, try one of their 10 locations. The ribs are good. But instead of opting for the 2 meat plate, opt for their best. I think you will find its better than their rest.
